Juan Carlos Costales - Independent Consultant in Innovation, Strategic Planning, and Business Development
Member of the Board since September 2016. An executive whose professional career began in 1990 at Venezolana de Cementos, a company that was acquired by CEMEX in 1994. He worked for CEMEX through various stages of his career until his retirement in August 2025, most recently serving as Manager at CEMEX Ventures. Juan Carlos holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a specialization in Business Economics from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello. He also completed CEMEX’s International Management Program (D1) at IPADE Business School.
Juan Carlos is an economist with experience in the commercial and manufacturing industries, bringing expertise in operations, strategic planning, and new business development. In 2008, he served as PMO Director at Whirlpool Mexico, where he led a local cost-savings initiative that was recognized as a strategic objective for the company. He also served as a university professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey’s International Business School from 2006 to 2008.
Between 2009 and 2017, he launched and managed an independent entrepreneurial venture in the food sector through a dried-fruit distribution company, leading its growth and expanding the business to four times its original size before rejoining CEMEX. He currently works as an independent consultant, supporting companies and institutions in the areas of innovation, business development, and strategic planning.
Juan Carlos has lived and worked in countries including Venezuela, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, and the United Kingdom. He has been a member of the ISR community since 2000. His three children are ISR alumni: Juan Carlos (Class of 2011), Daniel (Class of 2013), and Diego (Class of 2015).
