During the months leading up to our fair myself and Dr Ainsworth were impressed by the range of skills demonstrated by our students. They developed planning and organizational skills, showed excellent initiative and independence and many were resilient in the face of challenges and failures.
With 10 successful entries, it was an exciting event which saw projects ranging across all 3 Science disciplines as well as some ambitious engineering work. Some students carried out investigations whilst others created innovative models and it was an extremely tough task deciding on our winning projects. We would like to congratulate all of the following students for their hard work and dedication over the past few months.

These students will now be given the opportunity to compete against students from other schools at the Alice Smith Science Fair on 14th March. This is the first competition of it’s kind to have happened for International Schools in several years and we are excited to be submitting such strong projects.
We would like to thank our judges on their contribution to selecting the winning projects:
Our Science ambassadors: Hadi Zaman, Isabelle Stravens and Lizzy Yee
Science Teacher judges: Ms Russool, Ms Lim, Ms Wijewardana, Ms De Aguiar
Guest Judge: Dr Brown
Science Week: 8th – 19th March:
The Science fair was an excellent showcase of talent and truly reflects the passion our students at BSKL have for Science. It was a fantastic warm-up for our ‘Science Week’ which we will be celebrating between 8th-19th March. This coincides with British Science Week which, this year, has the theme of ‘Connections’. We will be exploring this theme with a series of activities and events throughout the week which will include:
- Connections Science Quiz
- Science ‘word of the week’ take-over
- Tutor Time 3,2,1 Daily Science Newsletter
- KS3 lessons will have a special focus of ‘Making Connections using Forensics’
- ‘Science Cinema: Our Universe’ which will show the connection between all energy in our solar system and life on Earth.
These events have been organized with the support of our Science Ambassadors (Hadi Zaman, Isabelle Stravens and Lizzy Yee and Jaime Ross) who are proving a vital part of the Science team this year! We hope all students will get involved in the various activities and enjoy all that is on offer.

As part of their transition to secondary school, Year 6 attended our annual secondary Science Fair. They marvelled at the range of studies on display and listened intently as secondary school students explained their projects and gave the Year 6s a taster of what is to come in their Science lessons next year.
Here is what they had to say about it:
This Wednesday, 1st of March, Y6 went to secondary school to see the science fair that the Y7-Y9 had created. When we stepped out of the lift, all the Y6 students could see was a crowd of amazing stands which had nice people around to explain all of the different and interesting facts that we all did not know. I personally liked the ‘Chicken Terminator’ stand the best. Thanks for inviting us.

On Wednesday, instead of MFL, we went up to the Secondary campus to experience the science fair that was being held on the top floor of the secondary building. There were many exciting things to learn and see there: a blood-detecting booth, a booth where you learn about homemade remedies for ulcers, a chicken terminator, etc. It was a fun and interesting event to be invited to, and we were so ecstatic that we were allowed to come and visit! Thanks for inviting us.

We went to the Science Fair and saw many cool and interesting things there. I like the lollipop that heals the ulcer. I thought it was fake at first because it was just so unbelievable. The solar panels were also cool as I didn't know that they could make the car move!
One of the secondary students asked me 'What I thought would happen if it rained? Did I think that it will stop working or break the solar panels from getting energy? Well, I found out that it will improve the performance of the solar panels as it will help clean the dust off the solar panels. I didn't have enough time at the science fair to see everything but it was so good. Thank you to all of the secondary students

My thoughts on the secondary science fair were that it was admirable. The things that make it great were the secondary students and how they explained how their stall worked, plus the secondary students were really nice, and friendly. Overall, the science fair was great.

For 6th Period, instead of MFL, year 6 was to go to the Science Fair in Secondary and on behalf of everyone in my class, maybe the year, it was amazing! First, we took the elevator to Secondary with 9 of our classmates and 1 teacher to supervise us. Then, we waited for the next batch of students in our class, 6D. Once everyone was there, we wandered around looking at different experiments like ‘What is the best insulator?’. We listened to why they did this experiment, what they utilized to make the experiment and how the experiment worked. Personally, my favorite one is ‘The Chicken Terminator’. If you’ve seen the Science Fair, which is your favorite?
