BISHMUN 2026 Welcomes Ambassador David M. Satterfield

BISHMUN - BISHMUN
Learning from a Lifetime of Diplomacy

At The British International School of Houston, we believe in creating exceptional learning experiences that prepare students to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world. Through opportunities such as Model United Nations, our students develop the confidence, critical thinking, and global perspective needed to shape the future.

That is why we are delighted to announce that Ambassador David M. Satterfield will join BISHMUN 2026 as a distinguished guest speaker.

Organised by our student leadership team and chaired by Alexandra, Year 12, BISHMUN 2026 will bring together student delegates to explore global issues, strengthen their diplomatic skills, and engage in meaningful debate.

A Distinguished Diplomatic Career

Ambassador Satterfield brings more than four decades of diplomatic service and leadership experience in the United States and overseas.

Throughout his career, he has served in a number of senior roles, including:

  • Assistant Secretary of State
  • National Security Council Staff Director
  • United States Ambassador to Lebanon and Turkey
  • Chargé d'Affaires in Iraq and Egypt

In October 2023, President Biden appointed Ambassador Satterfield as White House Special Envoy for Middle East Humanitarian Issues. Following this role, he continued to support the U.S. Department of State as a consultant in 2024.

Today, he serves as Director of Rice University's James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy, where he continues to contribute to policy discussions and international affairs.

An Unforgettable Opportunity for Students

Model United Nations provides students with far more than debating experience. It challenges them to think critically, communicate effectively, and understand complex global issues from multiple perspectives.

Hearing directly from a diplomat with Ambassador Satterfield's experience will offer delegates a unique insight into international relations, diplomacy, leadership, and public service. His experiences working across the Middle East, Europe, and Washington will provide valuable context as students tackle many of the same global themes explored throughout the conference.

For many delegates, it will be a rare opportunity to engage with someone who has played a pivotal role in international diplomacy at the highest level.

Developing the Global Citizens of Tomorrow

BISHMUN reflects our commitment to developing creative, resilient global citizens who are ready to make a positive difference in the world.

Under the leadership of Alexandra and the student executive team, this year's conference continues a tradition of student-led excellence, bringing together young people who are passionate about collaboration, problem-solving, and global engagement.

We look forward to welcoming Ambassador Satterfield and delegates from across the region for what promises to be an inspiring and memorable BISHMUN 2026.
